The kidnapping of the Session Judge of South Waziristan merged district, which occurred on April 27, has not been claimed by any group yet. However, according to officials, the Gandapur faction of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) is believed to be responsible for the incident.
However, Judge Shakirullah Marwat was rescued on Sunday night, a senior Pakistani official confirmed to The Khorasan Diary, while further details were awaited.
In response, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government established a special committee to recover the judge and apprehend the kidnappers.
Security was tightened on exit and entry routes of both the adjacent districts of Dera Ismail Khan and Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the judge's driver, who testified to the police in the First Information Report (FIR), the incident unfolded when around 25 armed militants, travelling on five motorbikes, blocked the main district Tank and Dikhan road, forcing the judge's Toyota vehicle to stop.
The militants then blindfolded the judge and the driver took them away and forced the judge to change his clothes. The assailants set the black Toyota Fortuner vehicle ablaze before fleeing with the judge.
The driver was later released to convey the militants' demand to the authorities, which is the release of imprisoned militants, accompanied by a warning of potential consequences if the demand is not met.
