Closure of Wagah-Attari Border disrupts key export route between India and Afghanistan image

The closure of the Wagah-Attari border could have a severe effect on export of dry fruits from Afghanistan to India, traders have warned.

Dry fruits are one of Afghanistan’s biggest exports, with 115,000 tons being exported between May 2024 and March 2025. Along with China and Pakistan, India is one of the biggest destinations of the fruit. The exported fruits amounted to over $350 million.

Exports from Afghanistan to India have been completely stopped via the Wagah-Attari border, mainly affecting the movement of dry fruit.

Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Investment as well as Afghan traders have warned about the severe financial damage if the closure continues.
